Grubhub’s 2023 Community Impact Report

At Grubhub, the communities in which we operate sit at the core of our business. Over the past few years, we evolved our community impact approach to ensure we are supporting our neighbors and communities in the way Grubhub is uniquely positioned to do. Since 2020, the Grubhub Community Fund has given more than $70 million to charitable organizations and communities nationwide.

In 2022, we narrowed our community impact focus to three important areas:

  • Helping close the hunger gap. We serve as a community partner and industry leader in the effort to reduce food insecurity and help close the hunger gap in our communities.
  • Creating opportunities in the hospitality industry. We partner to create innovative solutions that address challenges for restaurant businesses and advance social outcomes for individuals.
  • Supporting independent restaurants. We support independent restaurants with the necessary resources to sustain and grow their business and have a positive impact within their communities.

We are on a continuous journey to identify new opportunities that will strengthen and deepen our community impact.

Growing our community impact in 2023

2023 was all about expanding our impact. Grubhub invested $15 million in communities across the United States through the Grubhub Community Fund and other impact programs in 2023. By investing in our community impact programs we’ve been able to widen our reach, supporting more than 500 organizations in 45 states.

Grubhub Community Impact Report 2023

Our 2023 Community Impact Report gives a deep dive into how we approach local outreach and support. The impact report highlights the programs we invested in last year and gives a glimpse into our plans to expand our support in the future.

“The communities where we operate are the very heart of our business, and we have a responsibility to help strengthen them in ways Grubhub is uniquely positioned to do,” said Dave Tovar, Senior Vice President of Communications & Government Relations at Grubhub.

In 2023, Grubhub deepend its community impact in key markets by:

  • Providing more grants to more organizations. We supported more than 80 organizations through the Grubhub Community Fund – a 40% increase from 2022.
  • Expanding hometown impact. We invested in new partnerships across our impact focus areas, supporting nearly 100 Chicagoland community-based organizations through Grubhub and Grubhub Community Fund programs.
  • Scaling food recovery efforts. We hit a new milestone in our food recovery effort, partnering to recover and redirect more than 40 million pounds of food to local food banks, pantries, and community organizations across the country.

Investing in our local communities remains a key value for our business. In 2023, we placed an emphasis on supporting our neighbors in our two key markets: New York City and Chicago. In New York City, the Grubhub Community Fund gave $1,420,000 to local nonprofits and distributed more than 132,000 meals.

In our hometown of Chicago, the Grubhub Community Fund gave more than $1,600,000 to local nonprofits and distributed almost 3.2 million pounds of food via food bank and pantry partners. We were able to recover more than 5.2 million pounds of food in partnership with FoodRecover.org and Rescuing Leftover Cuisine.

“I am extremely proud of how we supported restaurants, especially ones that are small businesses, in the past year, and am looking forward to expanding our impact in 2024,” Dave Tovar said. “We have a lot of work ahead of us including the launch of new funding opportunities for nonprofits, expanding our efforts to create more opportunities in the hospitality industry, and engaging our delivery partners in our impact work.”
